1970 Mustang Convertible

1970 Mustang Convertible restoration and detailing

This 1970 Mustang convertible has lived in the Northwest since new. It was originally purchased at a Portland Oregon dealership. The original owner sold it locally and the new owner started a restoration in early 2000. Eight years later he finished the running gear. Rebuilt the stock 351w to 400hp and rebuilt the FMX transmission, installed new front suspension, new gas tank and fuel lines, new brake system and many upgrade modifications. Over the years he moved several times and the exterior trim and some interior parts were lost. Eventually he realized he did not have the time to finish and in turned traded it for a completed muscle car. The new owner parked it in the back of his shop for the last two years eventually putting it up for sale to raise funds for expansion of his shop.

The car still had the original paint and interior. The floor boards were in excellent shape and the exterior sheet metal had no rust cancer. The interior and convertible top upholstery was cracked and brittle. All the gauges and electrical worked. The convertible top frame was in excellent condition and the power top worked. The exterior trim, bumpers, grill, marker and tail lights were missing. The engine had not been fired since being built.

Since there were no sheet metal repairs and the car was already disassembled it was shipped off to paint. It was painted a stock 1970 gulf stream aqua.
New exterior trim, grille, bumpers and lights were purchased and installed. The carburetor was rebuilt and dual exhaust was installed, brakes bled, fluids topped off and the engine fired up. Seats were re upholstered and new carpet installed. The magnum 500 wheels were cleaned and re painted and correct center caps were installed.

New convertible top with the correct split rear glass was installed. New weather-stripping was also installed.

The customer then completed the drivetrain and upholstery.
